Celebration 24 September
The apostle Thecla came from Iconium and was the daughter of a Gentile family, and her mother’s name was Theoclea.
He was converted to the Christian faith thanks to the preaching of the Apostle Paul himself, who did it in the neighbouring house of Onesiphorus.
He had already been engaged to a national named Thamyri. When he and her mother Theoclea realized that she had converted to Christianity, they tried to get her to reverse her decision.
When they saw that this was useless, they turned Paul over to the ruler Castile, who finally, after imprisoning him, deported him. Then Thecla abandoned her suitor and followed the Apostle to Antioch in Pisidia.
Many times she suffered torments but her faith saved her. From Antioch she went to Myra in Lycia to meet the Apostle Paul and from there to Seleucia, where she fled to Mount Calamon, where she died in peace at the age of ninety.
