11 February celebration
Saint Vlasios lived during the reign of the emperor Licinius (308 – 323 AD). He studied medicine but offered his services without money, as charity, to the suffering and sick.
In addition to medical assistance, it provided free medicines to patients and paid their hospital expenses. Charitable activity was cultivated in his soul by his love for God and the study of the Bible. The Church received him into the ranks of the holy clergy and elected him Bishop of Sebastia.
During the reign of Licinius, the prefect Agricola arrested him and subjected him to horrible torture. The soldiers, after mercilessly flogging him with sticks, hung him from a tree and then led him bound to prison.
Then they threw him into the bottom of a lake. But the Saint, after God’s miraculous intervention, was rescued. Enraged then, the enemies of the faith beheaded him in 316 A.D. Thus, St. Chrysostom Vlasius received from the Lord of Glory the crown of martyrdom.
His Synaxis was held in his Martyrdom, which was located near the Martyrdom of St. Philip the Apostle.
