Image Resurrection of Christ. Icon of Hagiography on a 22K gold background and gold polished border.
In the centre of the icon, Christ – a thunderbolt, shining with uncreated light, Lord of Life, full of the dynamism of the Holy Spirit and radiating divine energies.
His face reigns and reigns royally as a deliverer after the Passover service that took place in Hades. The power of His gesture, that violence, which takes hold of the heavens and passes through the ether is enhanced by His waving robe.
It is surrounded by a luminous glory consisting of celestial spheres adorned with bright stars and traversed by its radiation. He is clothed in light, a characteristic of the glorified body and a symbol of the divine Glory, His divinity.
That is why his garments are of a supernatural whiteness and refer to the colours of Tabor (in the Transfiguration).
In other images, this is yellow gold plated and covered with a casing, with gold rays. Christ is in royal robes, he is the Lord, but his only power is crucified Love and the invincible power of the Cross. In other images he carries in his hand the trophy of victory, the Cross.
Beneath the broken gates of Hades that Christ broke down, an old man is depicted in the darkness of the cave, dishevelled, or even naked, bound in chains and terrified, is death or Satan.
In the darkness the keys, bolts and levers of the kingdom of Hades are thrown and scattered. (He has broken the gates of brass, and he has broken the bars of iron – Psalm 106:16)
With a mighty wave of his hands he seizes Adam and Eve, distraught, as representatives of the human race, in Hades. It is the subversive Meeting of the two Adams who now coincide and are drawn together. He ascended the cross to seek the one who was lost and descended to Hades saying: Become my image and likeness. (Hymn of St. Ephraim).
The groups on the left and right represent the second plan, humanity, people.
They are the righteous and the prophets. (Abel, Enoch, Isaiah, Jeremiah). On the left are the kings David and Solomon, preceded by the Baptist who expresses the gesture of a martyr and identifies the Savior, he is a precursor to Hades as well. On the right Moses bears the tablets of the law.
Everyone recognizes the Savior, and holding Adam’s hand he ascended from Hades and all the saints followed him.
Christ does not come out of the grave, but from the dead, He comes out of the exhausted Hades as from a bridal palace…
