Saint Stylianos was born in Paphlagonia, Asia Minor, between 400 and 500 AD. He was blessed from his mother’s womb yet. “He, sanctified from the womb, became the Holy Spirit’s dwelling place”, his synaxar says. As he grew, by the grace of God he became a dwelling place of the Holy Spirit.
From his childhood he showed the rare qualities of his sanctified life. Though he too was a child and a youth and a teenager, though he too had flesh, yet he did not let desires pollute his spirit and soul. He kissed the true wisdom of God and saw how temporary and vain this material world is.
The saint is depicted with an infant sparring in his arms symbolizing that he is the protector of infants. The memory of Saint Stylianos is celebrated on 26 November.
