Celebration 15 May<\/span><\/p>\n

Saint Achillios came from Cappadocia and lived during the reign of Constantine the Great (306 – 337 AD). His youthful longing brought him to the Holy Land and then to Rome. <\/p>\n

There he devoted himself to the sacred work of the Preacher, teaching the divine word unceasingly in cities and villages, defying needs, curses, persecutions and sufferings. His great and important services made him Bishop of Larissa. <\/p>\n

From his new position Achillius was the spiritual leader and teacher, the one who said and did. He preached every day, helped the widows, protected the orphans, relieved the poor, defended the wronged, was the vigilant guardian and watchman of the legacy of the faith and of the flock entrusted to him. <\/p>\n

Achillius also distinguished himself in the First Ecumenical Council that took place in 325 AD in Nicea, against Arius. And then Constantine the Great, appreciating his virtues, gave him a large monetary donation which, when Achillius returned to Larissa, he used to build temples and for the care of the sick and the poor.<\/p>\n

When he sensed his death, he called all the priests of his diocese to him and gave them paternal advice on their duties.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
