The homonymous miraculous icon has been in the Holy Monastery of Docheiariou on Mount Athos since 1646. As mentioned in the Synaxarion by Hosios Nicodemus, in the Monastery of Docheiariou, in the right part of the Monastery’s Trapeza, there was an old icon of the Virgin Mary. The fathers of the monastery say that it had been painted in the time of the founder of the monastery, Neophytos, in the 11th century. <\/p>\n

The grace of Panagia Gorgoepikoou performs numerous miracles not only on Mount Athos, but also outside of it, in cities and villages throughout Greece, where there are copies of the sacred icon. The Virgin Mary of Gorgoepikoos is very miraculous, she heals various diseases, gives children to childless couples, reveals lost objects, protects those in danger at sea, redeems those who are captured, cures headache and fatigue, heals the paralyzed, gives light to the blind, heals from deadly diseases, chases locusts from the fields and many other miraculous things.
