Icon of Virgin Mary of Death silkscreen of excellent quality with ”vivid” colors and gold background 22K.
The picture comes with a hard cardboard box.
The admittedly original and strange name “Virgin Mary of Grace” is due to the unique and miraculous icon, where the Virgin Mary is depicted holding Christ not as an infant, but hanging dead on the Cross of Martyrdom.
And because the concepts of the dead and Charos are related, the icon, and the church in general, was named “The Virgin of Charos”.
In 1600, monks from the Holy Mother of Patmos arrived in Lipsi and built the “Panagia tou Charos” monastery at a distance of one kilometre from the village.
The church, a three-storey Byzantine church, is distinguished by its low dome and irregular arches, which create an unusual charm, in combination with its few and narrow windows.
A large number of pilgrims flock to the Church on August 23rd to venerate the icon, which is associated with a unique miracle!
A unique depiction, a miracle that is repeated and a name that is not easily encountered are the three elements that make this one of the rarest icons of the Virgin Mary absolutely unique.
It is a unique depiction showing the mother’s grief and the torment she went through in receiving her child dead after an incredibly cruel and shameful ordeal.
THE MIRACLE OF THE BLOOMING FLOWERS
According to testimonies, in April 1943 a young girl placed white lilies on the icon of the Virgin Mary as an offering to the Virgin Mary. No one knows what he wanted to ask of the Virgin Mary during that turbulent period.
As the days went by, as was natural, the lilies wilted. Three months later, in July 1943, some visitors noticed that the wilted lilies had begun to turn green and were practically coming back to life.
On August 23, when this particular temple celebrates, the lilies had new buds.
People who visit the small chapel of Panagia to worship and admire this special icon of the Virgin Mary say that this miracle is repeated every year at the same time.
