Icon of Jesus Christ of Sinai with handmade silkscreen on polished gold background in various dimensions.
Christ the Pantocrator , as it has been handed down, is a life-size burnt image from the first half of the 6th century, located in the Monastery of St. Catherine of Sinai. There is a slight asymmetry in the eyes, which catches the viewer’s attention. Christ, wrapped in a purple robe, holds a large closed gospel and blesses. It is projected on a symmetrical building, where a large niche opens. The depth is deep blue, lighter above, where two golden eight-pointed stars shine. A wide deep cyan circle surrounds the golden halo.
The Lord is depicted frontally, but his features – hair, eyebrows, eyes, mustache, beard – are completely asymmetrical. The pale face, the distant look, the two-dimensional clothing give a transcendental character to the noble figure of the Godman, which is iconographically associated with the representation of Christ Chalcis at the Holy Palace and with the depiction of Jesus on coins of Justinian II. The painting, of exceptional art, is attributed to a Constantinople workshop and is probably the oldest that has survived.
All icons of the Orthodox holiday are made in any size.
