Saint Minas is one of the military saints of the Church and lived in the second half of the 3rd century AD.
He came from Egypt, but served in the Roman troops in Asia Minor. Although his parents were idolaters, he was devout, and indeed could not bear to see the deception of idols prevail in the world. So he decided to retire for a time to the mountains, alone, with only God, so that by fasting, prayers and other spiritual struggles, but especially by the grace of God, he might strengthen in his heart his zeal and love for Christ.
When he felt ready, he came down again among the people and proclaimed that Christ is the true God and not deaf and insensitive idols. The Saint was then fifty years old, and it was not only that he had valour, wisdom and fine physique, but, as we would say today, he knew many people and was respected by very many. Therefore the ruler admired his courage, but he was afraid of influencing others. So he tried to flatter him, to get him on his side. But when he saw that he was intransigent, he became very angry and ordered him to be imprisoned, so that he might consider how to put him to death.
“No suffering can separate me from the love of Christ,” he told the ruler. And indeed; not only with wondrous patience and patience, but also with joy and exultation he endured all that the corruptible and earthly king commanded, in order to go to the true and eternal King, who gives life to all and rules over all, and the rulers of this world. In the end they beheaded him. On this day, the Church commemorates his memory on November 11 .
